리비아의 과자류 시장에는 현지 업체 제품이 일부 있으나 아직은 수입 과자류가 주를 이루는 상황으로 수입 과자류 간 가격경쟁이 매우 치열하다.
수입 시 다른 많은 상품들과 마찬가지로 에이전트를 통해 리비아 시장에 공급되고 있다.
리비아 과자 시장에 성공적으로 진입하기 위한 조건으로 관련 바이어들은 세계적인 인지도(브랜드 이미지 등)와 홍보 노력을 꼽는다.
특히 홍보에서 상품 카탈로그, 상품 진열대, 샘플 제공을 비롯해 운송차량을 통한 포스터 광고 등을 적극 시행해 줄 것을 요구했다.
과자류 소비자의 20%는 브랜드 이미지가 우수한 고가상품을 구매하는 것으로 알려졌다.
소비시장의 주류를 형성하는 80%의 소비자는 가격에 매우 민감한 반응을 보이고 있다.
가격탄력성이 매우 큰 만큼 인근 중동 및 유럽에서 많이 수입되고 있다.
이집트 및 튀니지 제품이 약 30%의 시장점유율을 보이고 있으며 이탈리아 제품이 25%, 터키 제품이 20%를 점유하고 있다.
2005년에는 과자류 수입규모가 처음으로 100만 달러를 넘어섰으며, 2006년에는 297만 달러를 기록했다. 그러나 2007년에는 전년과 비교해 59% 가량 감소한 123만 달러 규모에 그쳤다.
국가별로는 이집트가 수입시장의 27.8%를 점하면서 수입대상 국가 중 1위를 차지했다. 그밖에 EU 12.5%, 터키 11.0%,튀니지 10.3% 등을 기록했다.
우리나라에서의 수입은 전무한 것으로 나타났다.
